A day in Okayama, Japan

Okayama is the capital of Okayama prefecture and the largest city in the Chugoku Region after Hiroshima.

Okayama serves as the locale for the popular family tale of Momotaro (the Peach Boy), so visitors will notice many references to the legendary hero.

OKAYAMA CASTLE

Also known as Crow Castle due to its black exterior built in 1597 in the style of Azuchi-Momoyama Period.

The original castle was destroyed in the last year of World War 2 but the reconstruction was made in 1966.

Only one Okayama Castlee’s original buildings escaped destruction the war, the Tsukimi Yagura “moon viewing turret” which dates back to 1620.
